Pest Control Helps Regulate Unwanted Species

To regulate or manage unwanted species which can do harm to your health, or upset the ecology around you is referred to as pest control. It is most often associated with agriculture and is probably as old as it as well. To get the most out of agricultural cultivation, especially in the production of food, using pest control will seriously benefit you in protecting the crops from other plants as also from herbivores.Known for More Than 4000 Years

The traditional use of pest control was to burn the weeds or destroy them by plowing under as well as by killing the bigger herbivores as well as the birds that ate up the seeds. Even so, there are a great many pests that are a problem only because of what humans do. The coming of chemical pest control some 4500 years ago also helped improve matters somewhat as is evidenced in the use of poisonous plants in India.

The industrialization as well as mechanization of agriculture in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries saw insecticides such as pyrethrum and derris making chemical pest control the new option. A century later, when DDT and herbicides came to be known, chemical pest control got another boost and is still the predominant method employed even today.

There are also natural pest controls known to man and a good example of them are the cucumber, which is hated by ants and it will effectively remove them while also not being toxic. Cucumber will remove ants, wasps, moths, mites, and flies as well as other insects. There are also available some other natural pest control products including Orange Guard, Safer BioNeem and also traps such as Disposable Yellow Jacket Trap and Apple Maggot Trap.

Toxicity

A number of concerns are being raised about toxicity in the pest control chemicals being used today – both because of how it affects plants as well as its effect on humans and animals. If you are exposed to its fumes, you may suffer headaches, feel nauseous and uncomfortable. It can also cause chronic illnesses and may even result in miscarriages, sterility, and cancer - and can even be fatal.

It thus has become necessary to exercise caution about which type of pest control to use and the best option may be to use earth friendly items like vinegar, diatomaceous earth, cayenne pepper as well as garlic in the unending battle to keep the home and garden free of harmful insects and other pests. It may thus be more prudent to use essential oils that can repel or kill bugs and at the same time keeps humans and their pets in good health.
